Postdoctoral Research Scholar (Long Lab)

3/3/2022

Closed
Institution
North Carolina State University
Open Date
February 24, 2022
Location
Raleigh, NC, USA

Description
The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at North Carolina State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in the lab of Dr. Terri Long. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will collaborate with mathematical modelers to conduct hypothesis-driven molecular, genetic, and biochemical experimentation that will delineate the molecular rules underlying systemic Fe homeostasis in Arabidopsis. The candidate will be expected to contribute to a variety of studies to characterize protein function and dynamics in Arabidopsis that will require the use of in vitro protein analysis (ie. Immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting), as well as confocal, enzymatic, and physiological analysis. The candidate will be expected to design and conduct quality, substantive, and methodological research, and share and report research findings by publishing papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and participating in research conferences, seminar series, and other appropriate professional activities. The postdoc will meet frequently with Dr. Long to discuss best practices in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring. The postdoc will also be expected to assist with training undergraduates and graduate students that will join the lab.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, plant biology, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in plant transformation, analysis of transgenic plants, biochemistry, and confocal microscopy is required.
  • The successful candidate should be a highly self-motivated and dedicated individual with experience in sequencing analysis.

Description
The Benfey lab is a leading developmental biology lab located at Duke University. We are seeking to hire a full-time technician who will primarily work on a project examining single cell gene expression in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Duties will include preparation of single cell RNA-Sequencing libraries, as well as tasks related to general molecular biology, and use/maintenance of a state of the art light sheet microscope. Training will be provided. This is a position suitable for a recent graduate seeking to obtain lab experience before graduate school, or anyone interested in working on a project using cutting edge technologies to help answer fundamental questions on developmental biology. Bachelor's degree in life sciences related field and experience in a molecular biology lab are required.

Raleigh, NC, USA

Description
The Sozzani Lab research focuses on understanding how stem cells are organized and maintained in the root of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Our goal is to gain a coherent qualitative and quantitative understanding of stem cell maintenance at the systems-level. Our research leverages techniques derived from molecular, developmental and cell biology, mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science and engineering. In plant systems, stem cell regulation has clear implications for increasing the production of crops used for food, fiber and fuel. Our research will reveal a specific molecular pathway of plant stem cells, and provide broader insights into the fundamental properties of stem cells across the plant and animal kingdoms.

STANFORD LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
“The Plant Cell Atlas operates predominantly out of the Carnegie Institution for Science's Plant Biology Department located at Stanford University. Stanford sits on the ancestral land of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. This land was and continues to be of great importance to the Ohlone people. Consistent with our values of community and inclusion, we have a responsibility to acknowledge, honor, and make visible the University’s relationship to Native peoples.”
