December 1, 2023 for full consideration

Description
As part of a campus-wide strategic faculty hiring initiative in the emerging research area
of climate science and sustainability, the Department of Genetics, Development and Cell Biology at Iowa State University seeks to hire an assistant professor in Plant Systems Biology. The applicant is expected to use modern genetic and genomics approaches such as genome editing, single-cell RNA-seq, multi-omics, computational modeling, network analysis and/or predictive phenomics. Research topics may include but are not limited to understanding how plants respond to abiotic stresses such as drought, heat, cold, and/or biotic stresses such as bacterial, fungal and insect challenges, plant signaling networks, and a long-term goal of developing resilient crops. The incumbent has the opportunity to address fundamental plant biology questions related to agricultural sustainability and to collaborate with scientists across the ISU campus including in the Crop Bioengineering Center and the Plant Sciences Institute.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biological sciences at the time of appointment OR Ph.D. in other fields
with 1+ years of postdoctoral research in biological sciences.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong potential for conducting and publishing innovative research in an appropriate research topic in plant systems biology.
  • Postdoctoral experience using contemporary genetics and genomics approaches
  • Strong record of research success and productivity.
  • Commitment to enhancing existing research strengths at ISU such as by engaging in interdisciplinary or collaborative research.
  • Teaching experience and/or commitment to student-centric teaching and to mentoring.
  • Potential for success in securing extramural funding.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, a statement of research plans (3 pages max), a teaching and mentoring statement (1 page max) and the names and contact information for three referees.

Postdoctoral Visiting Scientist – Single-Cell and Spatial Genomics

3/7/2023

Closed
Institution
Corteva Agriscience
Location
Des Moines, Iowa, USA

Description
Corteva Agrisciences has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Visiting Scientist to serve as an integral member of a team focused on implementing single-cell and spatial transcriptomics technologies and applying those technologies to conduct novel research towards the discovery of genetic and epigenetic factors driving plant tissue and cell’s responses to various internal and external inducers. The role will require strong technical skills, an ability to communicate with other scientists to accomplish objectives, and strong management skills to deliver on various technical projects. The position will be part of the Genome Sciences group, located in Johnston, IA, in the Des Moines metro area.

The ideal candidate will have strong molecular biology skills, including a deep knowledge of single-cell genomics-based applications, along with a proven familiarity with next-generation DNA & RNA sequencing technologies. The postdoctoral scientist will lead efforts to implement new single-cell and spatial platforms and technologies, conducting research and analyzing results to determine best outcomes and methodologies for various crop-related projects of interests. The postdoctoral scientist will be encouraged to communicate research outcomes through publication in peer-reviewed journals, participation in scientific community working groups, and presentations at key scientific conferences. This is an exciting opportunity where the candidate will be given direct access to a variety of cutting-edge technologies, and the opportunity to collaborate with world-class plant and molecular biology scientists.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in plant biology, genomics, molecular biology, or related scientific field
  • Demonstrated experience in single cell/protoplast/nuclei manipulation in plant, molecular biology, and functional genomics
  • Knowledge of plant cellular biology and bioinformatics (R, Python…)
  • Previous exposure to tissue preparation and microscopy would be a plus
  • Demonstrated ability for protocol testing and development, along with experiment planning, execution, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to disseminate complex technical issues in a clear, concise manner to a variety of audiences
